Apple (RED) turns to raise awareness for World AIDS Day
Apple customers have guaranteed care and support services for more than 11 million people living with HIV/AIDS
For the past 16 years, Apple and its customers have joined the global fight to end AIDS. Apple’s partnership with (RED) supports the Global Fund, which provides access to health services to millions of people in the communities most in need in sub-Saharan Africa – including to important work in rural communities, and support for pregnant women and their families. Over the past three years, funds have also been used to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on these communities.
Since 2006, more than a quarter of a billion dollars in Apple support funds have helped provide care and support services for more than 11 million people and distributed more than 197 million HIV test. Apple’s support has helped over 5 million HIV positive mothers prevent passing the virus to their babies.
The fund includes support for community health workers like Mama Esther, who provide love, care and access to treatment in their communities. For more than 15 years, he has been away boom to boom (door to door) in the Maasai community in Tanzania, providing health services in the home, encouraging people to visit the local clinic, and helping the pregnant women to participate in the care of the family and the family. Mama Esther is able to do this important work in her rural community in part because of the monthly stipend she receives from the Global Fund.
During one of her visits to the community, Mama Esther met Neema, who was pregnant and very ill. Mama Esther encouraged her to get tested for HIV at the Mto wa Mbu Community Clinic, where Neema tested positive for the virus. Fortunately, Neema immediately started antiretroviral therapy – soon after, she gave birth to an HIV-free baby.
Neema’s story is an example of the care and support Apple’s customers have received.
In celebration of World AIDS Day, Apple is offering new ways for consumers to continue to support the World Fund, raise awareness, and learn more about the fight to end it. in HIV/AIDS.
