Prince Harry revealed his disdain for his stepmother in an interview with “60 Minutes” on Sunday.
The Duke of Sussex has described Queen Consort Camilla as “the worst” in his parents’ relationship, echoing Princess Diana’s mother’s explanation that Camilla was the “third person in their marriage”.
“She wanted to update her image,” Harry, 38, said of Camilla, 75, who married her father, King Charles III, in 2005, nine years after the royal split with Diana.
But while Camilla and Charles, 74, have been waiting almost a decade after their divorce to tie the knot, the couple are taking a long time to get married to others. .
Princess Diana famously described her marriage to Charles as a “balloon” due to temptation.
Harry wrote in his memoir, “Spare,” that he wanted Camilla to be “happy” because it would hurt her less.
A royal spokesperson explained to Anderson Cooper that Camilla’s desire to change people’s perceptions of her is terrifying “because of the connections she has made in the British press.”
He added, “And the two sides were open to the exchange of information. And with the family built on the hierarchy, and she, on the way to become a queen, there will be some person or body to the road because of that.
It’s in Harry’s new memory
Camilla’s character has been under suspicion by the British public for years because of her relationship with King Charles, which included the revelation of a very embarrassing story about tampons. She was called a home killer and was often compared to Princess Diana, who died in August 1997.
The king also hired Marc Bolland, a palace aide, whose only job was to raise public opinion of Camilla.
Harry wrote in his book, which hits the shelves on Tuesday, December 10, that he and brother Prince William pleaded with their father not to marry the princess now.
“We didn’t think it was necessary,” Harry said of his father’s second marriage. “We thought it would do more harm than good, and if he is now together with her, well – well. Why go that far when you don’t want to?
In the end the king’s brothers agreed to the marriage, because “they wanted him to be happy and to see her happy with him.”
In February, Camilla said she was “honoured” by Queen Elizabeth II’s desire to make her queen consort.
