Episode 31 of Dancing with the stars formally crowned Charlie D’Amelio its winner and ended the historic installment with one final surprise. The finale also marked Len Goodmanlast appearance as head judge but it seems to take some time for that Carrie Ann Inaba to accept this reality.

When he broke the news live, judge Carrie Ann seemed to take it particularly hard. Shortly after, she opened up on Instagram Live about her raw feelings about the latest DWTS turn
“Len has announced his retirement,” she said in the video. “We all had a little toast here in the dressing room after the show, Len, Bruno [Tonioli] and I … I have to say we all cried.”
She continued: “It was heartbreaking … He’s become like my family and he’s just been so special and I’m sad. It’s the honest truth – I’m fed up.
“But I know Len, and he wouldn’t want us all to be emotional. Even though I was emotional earlier in the season and he’d be like, ‘Get it together.’ I love him for that,” the TV personality concluded.
Like Carrie Ann, Len praised his tenure Dancing with the stars, fans got emotional with her. They quickly filled up the comments section with their own words of praise for him.
“Len is simply the best! Definitely needs a much bigger send off! ❤️,” wrote one on Instagram. “We love you Len Goodman ❤️,” another user said. “Sad to see Len go! He is a party player and will be missed! Congratulations Len! Enjoy your retirement!” another follower joined.
While the announcement of Len’s passing was certainly one that Carrie Ann didn’t see coming, she still missed the good times they all had. Dancing with the stars‘ 31 seasons. She later reflected on how special the show was for allowing her, Len, and Bruno to continue judging each season, something she believed was rare on television.
“From day one, not many shows have their original judges,” she said in the video. “Thank you, Dancing with the stars for keeping us all. But I want to say that it’s a testament to what the show is about, which is dancing, because we’re all dancers … It was always about being a part of something.”
Carrie Ann concluded, “Let’s just give a shout out to Len. I love you Len.”
