Elon Musk has been whisked off to the Lusail City Stadium in Qatar to witness the hotly anticipated World Cup final between defending champions France and Argentina.
The Twitter CEO, who attended the final with former US presidential adviser and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, released a video from the stands moments before kick-off showing the impressive pyrotechnic display that followed the closing ceremony.
Twitter users blasted Musk for revealing his whereabouts just days after he temporarily suspended the accounts of several journalists for “doxing” him.
The Twitter owner on Thursday banned reporters from CNN, the Washington Post, the New York Times and others after they reported his decision to suspend an account that documented his private jet use — though the accounts were promptly reinstated Friday night.
Musk had said that reporters betrayed him by revealing his private information; The reporters insisted they had not published his address or location.

Several Twitter users joked that Musk “hurt himself,” questioning why he decided to freeze his account to reveal his private information and whereabouts before doing so just days later.
‘Is this real-time continuous doxxing?’ one person said, while another replied: “You should stick to revealing your location.”
But others pointed out that everyone has the right to share their location on social media.

Tens of thousands of soccer fans dressed in French and Argentinian colors gathered at Doha’s Lusail Stadium on Sunday for the clash between Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, stars of Doha-owned Paris St Germain.

Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 World Cup, which has been controversial, was part of a carefully constructed strategy by the small but wealthy nation to strengthen its global influence.
The tournament has put the spotlight on its human rights record – including conditions for the foreign workers who built these stadiums and conservative laws that ban homosexuality, limit political expression and curb alcohol sales.
In May, a coalition of human rights groups, including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, called on FIFA and Qatar to establish a compensation fund equal to at least $440 million in World Cup prize money for workers abused or killed in Qatar. Neither FIFA nor Qatar agreed to establish a fund.
Qatari officials say decades of criticism of their country have been unfair and misinformed, citing labor law reforms implemented since 2018 and accusing some critics of racism and double standards.
“We have aimed at this tournament to speed up the conditions for labor reforms, as the situation was previously unacceptable despite the best intentions,” said Hassan Al Thawadi, secretary general of Qatar’s World Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.
