Another helicopter, carrying six passengers, landed on the sand, police said. Five of the passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and one person was not physically injured, they said.

According to Queensland Ambulance Service, eight people were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital and one person was taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital. Police told reporters at the scene that it was difficult for emergency services to access the sand and reach those injured or killed in the crash.

Authorities have not released the names or ages of the victims.
