Moore County assistance recipients who lost food due to power outage can receive replacement benefits

RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) – Moore County residents receiving Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) will receive benefits to replace those who lost food due to an attack at an electrical substation, the NC Department of Health and Human Services announced Tuesday.

Replaceable benefits are made possible by two exemptions approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

All recipients in the county will have a percentage of benefits automatically added to their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card. These replacement benefits are automatically paid to county residents on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The amount of automatic replacement benefits depends on when a family received their FNS benefits between Nov. 4 and Dec. 3, DHHS said.

Also, if FNS recipients in Moore County lose food worth more than the automatic replacement amount, they have until Jan. 3 to submit an affidavit of loss to request additional replacement benefits.

The waiver provides additional time beyond the normal 10-day deadline for FNS families to report their food loss and receive replacement benefits.

To report food loss and find out if they are eligible for additional replacement benefits, recipients can call the Moore County Department of Social Services, visit Moore County DSS in person and sign an affidavit, or mail or fax. , said a DHHS news release.

If a household submits an affidavit claiming a loss greater than the automatically replaced amount on their EBT card, the household will receive only the difference between the requested amount and the automatically replaced amount. Replacement benefits cannot exceed the maximum monthly benefit for an FNS family.

FNS recipients in Moore County can contact Moore County DSS with questions.

Families receiving FNS benefits can check their FNS balance 24 hours a day, seven days a week:
