Today, Netflix announced it The Witcher will return for a fourth season. It wasn’t all good news though, as the streamer confirmed as well Henry Cavill will not return for season 4. Instead, Liam Hemsworth will be the new Monster, Geralt of Rivia.
Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the popular Witcher Books first launched in 2019 and quickly became popular, with many praising Henry Cavill’s stoic yet charming portrayal of the white-haired witch himself, Geralt. From that first season, The Witcher has become a bonafide franchise for Netflix, leading to more seasons, anime prequels, movies, and even a child-friendly twist. But the star of the original series won’t stick around as the fantasy franchise expands.
In a tweet published earlier today, Netflix confirmed that Cavill will step down from the role after season three of the Witcher broadcast…sometime in the future. Beginning in the fourth season, Liam Hemsworth will join “Witcher family” and will wear the white wig and carry a cool sword as Geralt moves on.
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been full of both monsters and adventure, and sadly, I will be putting down my bounty and swords for Season 4,” Cavill said in a statement shared by Netflix.

“As with the greatest literary characters, I carry the torch in awe of the time spent portraying Geralt and eager to see Liam’s handling of this most fascinating and nuanced of minen,” Cavill continued, “Liam, good lord, this character has such wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”
Hemsworth, a Witcher fan himself, also shared a statement about the surprise news, saying that he’s been a fan of Cavill’s take on the character for years and that he was “inspired” by his performance and what he brought to the character.
“I may have big boots to fill, but I’m really excited to step into The Witcher the world,” Hemsworth said.
The initial reaction online has been…not great! Many fans are confused and upset to see Cavill leave the role. And while it’s likely he’ll hang up his swords and medal to replace his red cape and tights when he returns to DCEU film franchise as SupermanI assume many Witcher fans will be sad to see the geek actor leave the popular show. But hey, with all that DC money he probably can build an even cooler computer!
