Winter Weather Advisory for parts of Bernalillo, Torrance, San Miguel and Santa Fe counties until 11:00 PM Thursday night. Wind Advisory in effect for Cary County, Kauai County, Roosevelt County, East San Miguel County, Far Northeast County, Harding County and Union County until 5:00 PM Thursday Timing Thursday morning Snow will begin to form in the Sangra de Cristo Mountains and areas near Raton Pass Early Thursday morning. Thursday afternoon snow will expand in coverage throughout the day Thursday. Affecting areas along Interstate 40 from Edgewood east toward the Texas state line. Thursday night Snow will continue to expand Thursday night to areas south of Interstate 40. Travel impacts will begin to be felt at this point as temperatures begin to drop and snow begins to accumulate in east central and southeastern New Mexico. Friday Snow continues in eastern and southeastern New Mexico on Friday. Heavy snow is expected in some areas of southeastern New Mexico which will lead to road problems. Eastern and southeastern New Mexico will see the greatest impacts of this winter storm. In areas under a winter storm warning the greatest impacts will be on roads. Roads, bridges and overpasses are expected to be slippery with snow and ice. Road visibility may drop to less than a quarter mile due to heavy snow at times. Travel is expected to be rough in east central and southeastern New Mexico. Officials say road closures may be possible. For areas under a winter weather advisory, roads are expected to be snow packed and icy. This includes Interstate 40 through Tijeras Mall through Clines Corners. Wind is also expected in parts of New Mexico, with gusts as high as 55 mph in areas where there are wind advisories. Snow Amounts Snow amounts will be heaviest in east central and southeastern New Mexico on Thursday and Friday. Those under a winter storm warning can expect to see between 4 and 8 inches of snow through Friday. Higher snow totals of around a foot could be seen in parts of Lincoln and Chavez counties.
