New Year’s celebrations returned in full force in 2023 as crowds celebrated from New York to Miami.
Hundreds of thousands of people braved the rain in New York City to watch the iconic ball drop in Times Square.
In Miami, Miley Cyrus celebrated, performing her hit Midnight Rain with Fletcher, which many are calling “the best performance of the night.”
Fans went wild over the two pop stars’ duet, with one viewer tweeting: “Put this Fletcher/Miley duet in a bottle so I can drink it.”
Miley also performed with Sia, Paris Hilton and her godmother/co-host Dolly Parton. Dolly and Miley opened with a cover of I Love Rock & Roll in matching cheetah outfits.
In New York City, fans were outraged by CNN’s alcohol ban for hosts, with many on social media pleading: “Let them drink!
Andy Cohen, 54, with co-host Anderson Cooper admitted: “We can’t drink,” before adding, “but that’s OK.”

Liza Koshy’s pants ripped during Rockin Eve rehearsals
During the preparation of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Eve, Liza Koshy introduced a special sense of comedy.
Her teddy bear-print pants ripped at the crotch seams on Friday, and the YouTuber gave a behind-the-scenes look at her rehearsals for Dick Clark’s New Year’s Eve Rockin’ Eve.
Despite the wardrobe mishap, Koshy continued to work out, even “crashing” to the ground in Times Square while wearing a knitted beige fur coat and matching turtleneck.

The tradition of the ball in Times Square
New Year’s Eve revelers first gathered in Times Square in 1904, but it wasn’t until 1907 that the first New Year’s Eve ball descended on Times Square.
The ball has seven variations that have been created to usher in the new year.
With the exception of 1942 and 1943, when the ceremony was postponed due to the “blackout” of lights in New York City during the war, the ball has been dropped every year since 1907.
Despite this, people continued to gather in Times Square to celebrate the New Year with a moment of silence and bells from sound cars parked at the base of the tower.
